My Life to Live

I was back in the film production since two weeks ago. (Has it been that long?) It's a DIGITAL production and a FEATURE. (Yay! My first feature experience.) I'm the Gaffer again, but I haven't got much to do because we are not renting any lighting kit except for few light bulbs Mike, the DP, would bring. So, my major task is finding the wall outlets to power the camera, the monitors, and some lights. Since the film is a legal drama, it's mostly shot in interior which makes the job easy and pleasant to boot. Since it's the first day of shoot, we are going for "light" work with two scenes, covering eight pages of the script. When I read the script, I felt easy because dialogues dominated the whole story, but it could become another talking heads picture. At one point of the filming, I felt like I was on a set of Ally McBeal...

Leah, our supporting actress is quite one. Almost everyone don't know each other, but got warmed up after working together for few hours. But Leah seems like she's somewhat out of place. However, when the camera rolls, she flips back on her acting persona and becomes quite a character. We've already nicknamed her "J Lo" for her looks.

I was wondering why there was only ONE actor on the call sheet when the scenes called for three characters. I found out soon enough that the producers are the prinicple actors. At least they are not directing. Emily is level-headed director without big ambition. I was fairly impressed how she gently nudges directions for the crew and the actors--must be a trait of a female director?

We were shooting UBS office just across the Hudson river, with a great view of Mahattan skyline. I didn't bring my camcorder because I wanted to concentrate on my job, but I'm definitely taking some vistas next time we rolled into the office. This feature production will run till late May. It would be also the time when I will be done with my internships and move on to next greater thing, hopefully. That's also my deadline for the scripts I've been working on to submit to find backers/buyers/etc. It all starts today...
