Calvin C. CHOI's Short Biography

Born in a Year of Hare, under the sign of Aries, Calvin C. CHOI was raised in Seoul, Korea during its rapid modernization and industrialization.

He spent his childhood under the care of loving parents who nurtured and supported his intense curiosity and fierce creativity with Lego and early Personal Computers.

English and a taste of foreign culture came to him during the brief 2 years residence in Canada, before returning to Korea. He understood he was a part of much bigger group than a nationality or a society or an epoch.

Graduating 3 years of Korean middle school engaged him to acquire fundamental Korean knowledge and experience that inspires him till this day. Struggle to keep both East and West perspectives and mentalities perhaps defines who he is today.

His family moved and lived in Chicago during most of 1990s, while he attended University of Illinois to study computer science in order to become a computer game designer. Instead, he found himself in the middle of Internet revolution and explored the bleeding edge of the technical and social experiments that will consume his lifetime.

The brief study abroad programs in France and Japan provided him new perspectives in his life and his goals. After working at an Internet company for a brief period following his graduation, he attended Full Sail Film and Video Production degree to pursue his dream of creating new kind of visual, emergent narratives that will captivate the audience of 21st century.

He is currently residing in New York City, writing several spec scripts, working on a number of productions and post-productions, and preparing to debut as a writer-director with his short digital animation project titled SR-75.
